Chavez compares Copenhagen Summit to ‘imperial dictatorship’
President of Venezuela Hugo Chávez caused a stir today when he compared the Copenhagen Climate Summit to an “imperial dictatorship” and blamed capitalism for “everything that’s wrong with the planet.”
"There is this top-secret sensation all over this place... It's like an imperial dictatorship" he declared in front of hundreds of delegates from around the world participating in the UN Summit.
During his 45 minute speech, Chavez accused the Summit of a lack of transparency. "Seven percent of the world population - some 500 million people - are responsible for half of contaminating emissions. Capitalism is to blame for this."
He also rejected a document redacted by developed nations in which they assign responsibilities for carbón emissions to all nations on earth. He also threatened that "no document created during the Summit would be accepted by the Bolivarian Alliance."
