Floods have forced the evacuation of thousands of families.

The situation in Northeastern Argentina and Western Uruguay is worsening as the Uruguay River continues to rise. In the last hours, more families had to be evacuated reaching a total of close to 15,000 people evacuated in Argentina and 5,900 in the neighbouring country.

In Argentina, 10,000 people were evacuated in the sole city Concordia, in the Entre Rios province, as the river keeps rising and more rain was announced.

The lake of Salto Grande, next to the city is reaching 36.68 metres while the containing capacity of its banks are of 37 meters. The water that has already flooded the city caused several power cuts.

The Chaco province (North) was also hit as storms have caused several power cuts and riverfloods, forcing the evacuation of over 4,000 people.

In Uruguay, the National Emergency System (SNE) told journalists today that departments of Paysandú and Salto are the most hit, with 2,488 and 2,650 people evacuated.

Authorities announced the river could reach the critical level of 16 meters on the Salto banks. Weather forecast announces high probability of rain today in the West while precipitations are expected in the North, tomorrow.

In Artigas, most of the 2,000 people evacuated could go back to their homes, but in case of rain, they might have to abandon their houses again.

The storms in the past days also cause various power cuts in the region.
