Bans testimonial candidacies
BA province Upper House passes electoral reform bill
The Upper House of Buenos Aires province Congress passed the electoral reform bill which bans the testimonial candidacies and establishes political parties stage simultaneous, open and compulsory primaries to elect candidates.
The bill has been designed after several testimonial candidates appeared on the June 28 congressional election. It states that a candidate who has already been elected for a post in the national, provincial or municipal government can not be a candidate for another political post.
The bill that has been passed to the provincial Lower House of Congress states those who have not been elected by the people can be candidates for congressional elections, for example, ministers.
It also states that political parties stage simultaneous, open and compulsory primaries to elect candidates.
The Victory Front and the Radical Party (UCR) voted for the bill and it has been rejected by the Unión PRO bloc, GEN and the ARI.
