Seven movies are on the menu of the week-long European Film Festival in Buenos Aires. Cannes festival executive director Thierry Frémaux, in charge of the planning of the programme will present every screening until Sunday.

Directors Xavier Giannoli (for ‘A l'origine', France), Fatih Akin (‘Soul Kitchen', Germany) and Christian Mungiu (‘Tales from the Golden Age', Romania) will also be present during the screening of their movies.

Four other movies will be shown during the week-long festival. ‘A Prophet', by French director Jacques Audiard and winner of the Grand Prix Award at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, will open the week, tonight at 9.15pm.

‘Fish Tank', by British Andrea Arnold, ‘Panique au village', by Belgians Stéphane Aubier and Vincent Patard and ‘Lourdes', by Austrian Jessica Hausner are the other movies on display. All screenings will take place at the Cinemark Palermo theatre, until Wednesday December 2.

The event is part of the 2009 Ventana Sur congress - one of the most renowned festivals in Latin America film industry -, which is taking place in the Harrods building from November 27th - 30th. It is organized by the Visual Arts National Institute (Incaa) and the Marché Du Film/Festival de Cannes company.
