The Labour Ministry has signed an agreement with delegates from the subway workers' union where they say that there will be no conflicts or strikes for one year and guarantee labor stability for ex delegates and delegates that do not have recognition.

According to the Ministry's sources, participation by delegates in negotiations for better work conditions will be facilitated.

Spokespersons informed a local news agency that this was the result of the meeting that lasted for more than four hours, and that took place between Labour Minister Carlos Tomada and representatives for workers and members of Metrovías company, without the participation of UTA labour union representatives.

Workers of the Buenos Aires subway earlier this year voted in favour of creating a new union to represent them, separated from the UTA transport workers union. The initiative, has been heavily resisted by UTA and the CGT Labour Confederation, as well as subway manager firm Metrovías, which are reportedly pressing the government to dismiss the demands of the employees.

The have substantiated their reluctance on the current labour law - dating back to the 1940s - which says that there can only be one union per economic branch. However, the Supreme Court earlier this year ruled in favour of the democratization of labour representation and has asked the authorities to amend the current legislation.
