Uruguay also severely hit
3 dead, thousands evacuated in northern, eastern Argentina
Important floods led to the evacuation of over 3000 people in northern and eastern Argentina. Intense rain caused the Paraná and Uruguay rivers to rise dramatically and flood parts of Chaco, Corrientes, Santa Fe, Entre Ríos and Salta provinces. Unofficial sources speak of about 8500 people evacuated.
Two teenagers (14 and 16) drowned and a 7-year-old girl died when her house collapsed on her, police sources said.
The Chaco province suffered the most from the floods, after going through a two years drought. Floods also caused several power cuts. Public transportation and school classes were suspended in the most-hit parts.
More than 2300 people were evacuated in the sole city of Resistencia as 130mm of rain fell in four hours. River floods caused the evacuation of 337 people in Santa Fe and 300 people in Concordia, Entre Rios province, at the border with Uruguay.
The neighbouring country was also severely hit by floods, which forced the evacuation of 3500 people.
