Republican Senator John McCain.

Senator John McCain, who ran against current US President Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential elections, said that the president’s foreign policies are leading to general failures and that they lack principles.

The United States is sending the “dangerous message to friends and enemies that it is unstable,” said McCain during an interview with various news sources, including German media outlets.

The Senator accuses Obama of acting dubiously in Afghanistan, saying that the president needs to send more troops into the country. The debate about the troops in Afghanistan causes the soldiers there to be insecure, says the Republican. The situation is, according to him, worsening and as time goes by, more and more soldiers are losing their lives.

The strategy of increasing troops in Iraq, outlined by former US President George W. Bush, worked and “will work in Afghanistan,” said McCain. He said that talks have been had with “our allies” concerning their participation, who did add that there are not many in terms of quanitity, but that “they are a very important sign of support.”

McCain went on to say that Obama’s policies concerning Israel are not popular, saying that “we asked that all Israelis stop the construction of settlements, and they did not do so. Then, we said there was no reason for them to put a break on all construction, leading to a peace stalemate,” he said.

The Republican senator did say that Obama is charismatic, adding that “he is able to inspire, and I admire that talent.” “Obama gave the world the message that the United States wants to cooperate,” he said.
