"We are not going through the best times in the championship. However, we are trying to be on top with media and new technologies." Pablo Fuentes, the head of the Boca Juniors' marketing and communication department today announced the launch of the football team's TV channel on YouTube, in a press conference.

Fuentes seemed confident that this new feature will allow fans from all over the world to have access to official Boca Juniors content on the Web. "Videos will be posted on the website by our media team, features that you won't be able to see anywhere else, not even on TV: creative content, videos with the players, from the changing room to the field...," Fuentes explained.

Ricardo Blanco, the head of YouTube's communication division in Latin America outlined that Boca was following the path of the biggest clubs in the world: "Barcelona FC or Real Madrid already have their YouTube channel. It helps clubs to reach their fans all over the world. And Boca is the first Argentine club to launch its channel," Blanco said.

Soon in English

Fuentes also noted the efforts that Boca has made with its own new website: "The number of daily visitors has doubled since the page was revamped in April. The page is constantly evolving and exceeding our expectations."

Both technologies (the website and the YouTube channel) will work together: "There is interaction between the YouTube channel and the website. Fans can now leave comments on the videos, and answer it posting videos of their own. They can also subscribe to alerts and receive an e-mail announcing each and every new official video that is posted on the Internet."

People are visiting Boca's website from 170 different countries every month, said Fuentes, praising the success of the new Website. Federico Lozana, the director of the Website section meanwhile said that the YouTube TV Channel would "increase the number of visitors even further."

However, the website is only in Spanish for the moment, limiting the development of the 'Boca brand' to Spanish speakers. "We are planning to translate it in five other languages (including English). This should be done soon. Same with the YouTube videos."

Asked about the club's reliance on new technologies, Fuentes concluded with an ironic tone: "Well, for a matter of budget, it is really hard for Boca to be the best club in the world. Maybe we can have the best website in the world!"
