Leonardo had reported threats
Oyarbide links shooting to espionage case, police say it was robbery
Federal Judge Norberto Oyarbide, who is investigating into an alleged case of espionage tainting the Macri administration in Buenos Aires City, suggested there might be a link between the attack against the brother-in-law of Mauricio Macri and his involvement in the probe.
"This didn't happen by chance," Oyarbide asserted during a radio interview.
Néstor Leonardo, a psychic married to Macri's sister Sandra, was attacked yesterday night in Ituzaingó, Greater Buenos Aires, only hours after he reported to have received death threats as he was testifying before Judge Oyarbide. Reports say his health is out of danger after he was shot twice during an apparent robbery.
The police yesterday arrested a man suspected of having shot Leonardo. The police said the man had a "large criminal record for armed robberies." At the time of the arrest, suspect Julio César Granada, aged 27, had a 22mm gun which is believed to have been used during the incident.
"Leonardo was attacked as he was opening the door of his home by two men, one of them armed," said a police officer In Morón. "Leonardo resisted the robbery and fought back, when he was shot by one of the assailants," the police source added.
Last week, Oyarbide reported that Ciro James, an official of the Macri who was arrested for tapping the telephones of prominent businessmen, had tapped Leonardo's telephone. Leonardo is at loggerheads with the Macri family, after they voiced their opposition to his marriage with Sandra, the daughter of tycoon Franco Macri.
