A federal court in Buenos Aires City started a trial against Civic Coalition head Elisa Carrió on charges of slandering presented by ex-president Eduardo Duhalde, whom she depicted as the "main responsible for the spreading drug trafficking in the country." Federal Judge María Servini de Cubría said the resolution will be announced tomorrow at 12pm.

Duhalde pressed charges in 2007 against the deputy-elect after Carrió in 2005 accused the ex-president of being "the largest political responsible from drug trafficking in the country."

After the hearing in Buenos Aires, Carrió said she "never sought to make Duhalde look like a drug lord." The CC head said Duhalde "should be considered responsible for growing drug trafficking. I do believe in the good faith of his wide, Hidla Duhalde (who was present in the hearing) but not his."

At the hearing, Carrió was joined by Buenos Aires province legislators Rubén Cinquerrui and Walter Martello, the co-authors of a report called "El paco, la punta del iceberg" (Paco, the tip of the iceberg) who are expected to substantiate her claims.
