To be signed tomorrow afternoon
Kraft workers to sign agreement tomorrow
Workers at Kraft Foods agreed to sign the proposal made by the Labour Ministry in a key meeting this afternoon aiming to defuse the ongoing labour dispute, but they claim that all the workers must be rehired.
One of the union leaders, Cesar García, said that "the workers think that the company will not reinstate the 27 dismissed workers who are from the internal committee."
Earlier today, one of the members of the union board at Kraft, María Rosario, told the press that the framework of the ministry "does not fully meet the workers demands, but it is a leap forward." The agreement, the unionist said, would allow reinstatement of 40 dismissed workers and all the suspended staff.
Twenty-three dismissed employees would not be allowed to return to the plant. The situation of each of them will be negotiated separately at the Labour Ministry.
The members of the food workers trade union, who continue to work at Kraft's plant in General Pacheco would remain in their posts until new elections are being held.
