Road to World Cup
Paraguayan media celebrates and mocks Maradona
After defeating Argentina and having assured a ticket to World Cup 2010, Paraguay is living in a state of ecstasy. Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo has declared holiday so that people can keep the celebrations and the joy of last night's victory.
The media has qualified the win as "the sweetest way to get qualified".
The ABC newspaper ramarked that the Paraguayan side "obtained an unquestionable victory over Argentina".
As the rest of the newspapers praise the victory, they also focus on mocking Diego Maradona and his uncertain skills as a coach.
Última Hora tabloid titled: "Hey Maradona! We are in... how about you?".
Likewise, Diario Popular published: "Argentina, may your ‘god' save you!" in a clear reference to Maradona who's considered a god for the Argentines, an idea that could start to fade away if his side persist on showing such a poor game level.
