FA head likely to take action if another defeat
Maradona in the line of fire
Argentina's team coach Diego Maradona is carrying a huge responsibility upon his shoulders after last weekend's strepitous defeat against Brazil.
His future tenure as Maradona is coming under increasing strain with reports from Argentina suggesting that popular support for the 1986 World Cup winning captain is waning.
According to a report published at Spanish newspaper AS, 65 percent of Argentines believe it's time the golden boy left as their nation's qualification remains in limbo, while the surveys taken by Argentine tabloids show that more than 70 percent of the asked believe the former super star should resign if his team lose against Paraguay on Wednesday.
With Ecuador and Colombia both set to play Wednesday hours before Argentina play Paraguay in Asunción, chances are that Argentina will hit down to the sixth place, and out of the qualification places for South Africa.
Maradona acknowledged that Argentina's predicament rests squarely on his shoulders saying: "The responsibility is solely and exclusively mine."
Former Boca Juniors striker Jose Sanfillipo is among those calling for El Pelusa to resign.
"Maradona knows nothing, he is useless. He should pack his bags urgently. Argentina are a disaster," he said.
Argentine Football Association's (AFA) head Julio Grondona is likely to challenge Maradona's job stability if the side does not collect those precious and desperately needed three ppoints from Asunción's visit.
